Olá, dreamers! 🌞 If there’s one thing Lisbon does exceptionally well (aside from food, charm, and those lovely trams), it’s the views. The city rolls across seven hills, and scattered across them are hidden gems called miradouros: scenic viewpoints that lift you above the rooftops and let you breathe in Lisbon’s golden magic.
On my December trip, two miradouros in particular stole my heart: Miradouro da Senhora do Monte and Miradouro de Santa Luzia. Each one offered a completely different experience, and together, they painted the most beautiful portrait of the city.
Miradouro da Senhora do Monte: Peaceful, Panoramic, Perfect
This one felt like a well-kept secret. Tucked higher up in the Graça neighborhood, Senhora do Monte offers one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in all of Lisbon. You can see the Castelo de São Jorge, the Baixa rooftops, the Tagus River, and even the 25 de Abril Bridge off in the distance.

Visiting in December meant fewer crowds and a kind of quiet, cinematic stillness. Locals sat on benches. A couple leaned in close under a blanket. The air was cool, crisp, and filled with possibility. I stood by the low stone wall for what felt like forever, just watching the sunlight stretch over the city.

If you’re looking for a spot to reflect, recharge, or simply fall in love with Lisbon all over again, this is it!
Miradouro de Santa Luzia: Azulejos, Bougainvillea & Alfama Views
In contrast, Santa Luzia feels like stepping into a storybook. Located in the heart of Alfama, it’s romantic, vibrant, and full of character. You arrive to a cascade of bougainvillea vines, soft stone arches, and a tiled terrace that opens up to sweeping views of the river and red rooftops below.

The famous azulejo tile panels depict scenes from Lisbon’s past, adding both beauty and history to the experience. It’s the kind of place where you want to linger, to sip a coffee nearby, take too many photos, and maybe journal a little while you listen to the sounds of the city. It’s also a wonderful jumping-off point to explore Alfama’s winding streets and charming corners.

Quick Tips for Visiting Both
- Wear comfortable shoes (those hills aren’t a myth!)
- Go during golden hour for the best light
- Bring a warm layer in winter. Even with the sun, it gets breezy!
- Allow yourself time to just be in the moment
Final Thoughts
Some cities are best experienced from the ground up. But Lisbon? Lisbon was meant to be seen from above. Whether you’re gazing out in awe at Senhora do Monte or soaking in the romantic charm of Santa Luzia, these miradouros offer more than just views, they offer perspective, presence, and pure joy.
They reminded me to slow down, to look outward and inward, and to let the city speak.
So next time you find yourself in Lisbon, follow the hills upward. I promise, the view (and the feeling) will be worth it.
