Olá, dear explorers! 🌊🌿 Just a short train ride from Lisbon lies a dreamy seaside escape that stole my heart—Cascais. With its laid-back charm, golden beaches, tiled lanes, and picturesque marina, this coastal town is the kind of place where you instantly exhale. It’s sun-drenched, colorful, and effortlessly chic—and I’m already dreaming of going back.
Cascais is one of those places where every step feels like a postcard. During my visit in December, the town was sprinkled with festive cheer—twinkling lights, holiday decor, and that cozy wintery vibe that makes everything feel a little more magical. I strolled through vibrant alleyways, dipped my toes in the Atlantic, admired the beautiful buildings, and let myself get swept up in the town’s relaxed, seaside rhythm. And now, I’m here to share a bit of that magic with you!

Wander & Wonder
The best way to experience Cascais is to simply wander. I spent my morning weaving through the town’s charming mosaic-paved streets, where every turn felt like uncovering a secret. The buildings, with their faded pastel façades and ornate balconies, looked like something out of a coastal film set. I couldn’t help but pause every few steps to snap photos, soak in the atmosphere, and admire the artistry of the traditional azulejos (tiles) that adorned so many doorways.

At one point, I ducked into a tiny bookstore with creaky wooden floors and the scent of old paper—it felt like a little treasure trove tucked between the more modern storefronts. I also stumbled upon a boutique selling handmade ceramics, and yes, I brought home a painted espresso cup that now reminds me of this perfect day.
Don’t miss the charming Praça 5 de Outubro, the beating heart of the town where locals and visitors alike gather. It’s a perfect place to sip an espresso and people-watch beneath swaying palm trees while street musicians play softly in the background.

Sea, Sun & Serenity
Let’s talk beaches. Cascais is known for its beautiful, accessible shoreline—perfect for soaking up the sun or dipping into the cool Atlantic waters. Praia da Rainha, a small, tucked-away cove right in the town center, is a personal favorite. Surrounded by rocky cliffs and hugged by quaint buildings, it’s the kind of place where you can lay back, listen to the waves, and let time slow down.
From the shoreline and various viewpoints, you can see sailboats and fishing boats gently rocking in the distance, dotting the horizon like a painting. The marina adds a picturesque touch to the coastal landscape, making it easy to imagine a carefree life by the sea.

A walk along the coastal promenade is a must. With the ocean on one side and elegant villas on the other, the views are nothing short of breathtaking. I stopped often—sometimes just to breathe in the salty air, other times to watch children playing by the water or couples holding hands as they strolled beneath the sun. Whether you’re snapping photos, enjoying the sea breeze, or just wandering with gelato in hand, it’s pure bliss.

Food & Flavor
While I didn’t have a full sit-down meal this time (the beach was calling!), I did enjoy a refreshing gelato and a cappuccino at a charming little café near the marina. The town has no shortage of restaurants offering fresh seafood, local wines, and pastel de nata galore—so if you have time, definitely treat yourself. Next time, I plan to indulge in one of the many ocean-view dining spots—preferably with grilled sardines, a glass of vinho verde, and a golden hour view.

Final Thoughts
Cascais swept me off my feet with its natural beauty, coastal charm, and relaxed elegance. It’s the perfect seaside retreat when you need a break from the buzz of the city—and a must-visit on any Lisbon itinerary.
Whether you’re wandering its sunlit streets, relaxing on a quiet beach, or simply savoring the salty breeze, Cascais invites you to slow down and fall in love with the moment.
Until next time… stay curious, stay coastal, and let the waves guide you. 🌊🌿
xoxo,
Bubbly ❤️
